I have mystery ancestors of my own and am currently doing a genetic genealogy project to find who they are. I will be sharing the information I find right here.
My great grandparents, on my maternal grandmother's line, were born in the Austro Hungarian Empire.
Frank Brunner Sr was born December 17, 1879 in Ujehgy, Vas, Hungary as Fransiscus Lorincz to a single mother, Catharina Lorincz. When Frank was just a couple years old, Catharina married Josef Brunner. For reasons unknown, Frank took the surname of his step father. I am looking for his biological father.
Maria Szivacz was born on November 23, 1881 in Vienna, Austria to single mother, also named Maria Szivacz. I call them Maria Jr and Maria Sr to avoid confusion. Maria Jr was placed with a foster family when she was just 10 days old. She was Maria Sr's only child as 5 months later in March of 1882, Maria Sr passed from a kidney disease at the age of 19. The twist is that Maria Sr was born in 1862 in Weiner Neustadt, Austria to single mother Anna Szivacz. I have two generations in a row on one line with myster fathers.
Anna Szivacz was born in 1838 in Szarvko, Sopron, Hungary (now known as Hornstein, Burgenland, Austria) to Fransiscus Szivacz and Agatha Borosich.
My first challenge is to research forward from my mother's 5x great grandparents to identfiy the DNA matches from the Szivacz and Lorincz lines. Many of the trees of the matches do not go past great grandparents so it's almost impossible to tell who is on which line without research.
The second challenge is many of the matches seem more distant than they actually are. There are a lot of half cousin matches due to the fact of the unknown fathers and several ancestors had children from more than one marriage.
I will post updates as soon as I have them.
